I did the portrait of Leo Messi, the Argentinian soccer genius, but i didn't do the description of the 80's Messi, called Diego Maradona (portrait of diego maradona on etsy), so here it is !

The cebollitas is the name of the little boys playing soccer in Argentina, he was one of them and was playing very well, once discovered he was recruited to play in the most prestigious club of Argentina.

dreams of World Cup

Maradona was famous at an early stage, and a showman playing with balls during half time. Journalist came down and start to ask this little genius about his ambitions.
Is dream was to play the national Argentinian team and win the World cup.

Party / Drugs and Soccer

Maradona joined the F C.Barca. Well this weren't glorious times as he started to party, drink and use drugs.
Barcelona supporters don't appreciate much his beheaviours.

Leg broken by Goikoetxea in 83

During the season with Barcelona, Maradonna was injured during a play with Bilbao in 1983. A severe Tackle of Goikoetxea broke maradona's leg nad forced him to stay away for a while.

Time for revenge.
Well eight months after, maradona came back for playing the Copa del Rey against Bilbao, and this time it was showtime including tackles fights and kicks in the heads.

The iconic italian soccer god of Napoli

 He didn't stay long in spain and quickly jump over the mediterranean sea to join the itain club of Napoli.
He became so famous, people of Napoli were lighting on candles in handmade Maradona shrines.

During the World Cup against england, Maradona did use his hand to put the ball in the goal, it's a famous fact known as the hand of God. Well, i did saw the pictures on archives but it wasn't that clear.
However, two minutes after, Maradona dribble 6 player and mark an incredible Goal wich is also part of soccer history

stop playing and heart Attack

After his glorious days in European championship, he turns back to South america, and ended up with severe heart problems, due to eccess during his fast days.

He then decided to hang up the shoes and stop playing Soccer.

cigars, weight and doctor explanations

Years later, after working on T.V, beiing the trainer of the national soccer team in 2010, he still have doctors recomandations to not drink too much, not smoking and not eating that much.... crabs risks !

Youth in Belfast.

Belfast skyline

 He grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, near the "George Best" Airport, well near the Docklands if the 70's Belfast.
As i've lived there once, i know that the belfast skyline is composed of the  H&W cranes and the roofs of the terraced houses.

The gifted Ulsterman

The youg georgie boy was gifted, he receive the capacity of touching ball qnd make it go directly into the net.
He was a bold player, thinking fast with great inspiration and feeling.

 He was fast and the ball was stick to his leg so he could dribble easily. Two right feets !

 Well, it was the good choice for the Manchester staff to hire Georgie Boy, as the result was the UEFA cup and winning championshipd. Best was celebrated bu the entire M.U supporters.

Today when you like someone, you write it somewhere on the internet, but earlier in the 70's it was more romantic and a letter was sent directly to your fan.

George best hair : The best collectible item

Georgie boy became an Idol for many of the fans and they start to go mad about that, especially when a supporter start to enter the field, running after his idol with scissors (or knife ?) trying to get a bunch of hair of george Best.

No need to say, the police was chasing him on the grass....

the fifth Beatles

 He was famous, so famous he get this surname of "the fifth Beatles ".

He was famous, he got the money, he was a huge Gambler as well, as sort of Best 007.
He also had a big crush on the prettiest girl on Earth and the fastest cars on road. Just like James Bond but in Real.

I didn't mention the Jaguar E-type, neither the Lotus Europa (both included in the picture, at yours to find), so i had to mention his mansion, a modern villa with the 70's design, made of pounds and huge windows to satisfied all his conquests.

The decadence

He wasn't really aware that he was drinking too much. Everyone saw it but he didn't realise it.
Death was pooring his glass and drinking along to celebrate his joy of life.

It happens sometimes, in the middle of the game where he put the ball aside,  throw away all the gin tonic breakfast he had earlier, get the ball again and continue his dribble.
One of the few player who could play completely drunk.

the best Angel on Earth

He died in the 2000's and the belfast city dedicated his airport to his memory. He was a typical Ulsterman, living, enjoying life with excess without counting.
